Scarlett Johansson 'Does' Tom Waits

I'm not sure what I think of this (Scarlett Johansson's Tom Waits album) yet.

My immediate reaction is not too promising, but I don't want to make an off the cuff remark I may regret later.

Tom Waits, filtered through a kind of 80's soundtrack-type musical feel and tone. Interestingly, where Tom Waits uses percussion to pierce cadence, the percussion here seems to add to it - as you get with movie soundtracks - they seem to be using the percussion to build up to crescendos in the song.
One of those flat female vocals, similar to from the Velvet Underground (but not as much charm, I don't think). Radiohead might be in there somewhere too...

I will say this: It's not what I expected. So, kudos there, I suppose.

As I write this, 'Falling Down' has come on. I'm disliking it.

Now hearing Anywhere I Lay My Head, and switching off. Full blog tomorrow.
bye bye

Personally I'm not impressed. These covers do nothing for the originals. i'll take Tom Waits' delivery over ScarJo's anyday.

checkout this tom waits blog i found, hillarious:

  2. Yup. After a couple of listens, I think it is a forgettable affair. Thanks for reading and for commenting pennies
